Simon Says No! First saw the light of day in the Bergen in the fall of 2006. Within a year later they were nomiated for song of the year on Norways biggest radio station, NRK P3's “Urørt” (Untouched). With a constantly changing line-up Simon Says No! toured the country and released a casette, before the founding members Ruben Nesse and Simon Økland left their home town for Oslo, where they'd already planned to form a solid 4 piece line up with Rolf Mathiesen and Even A. Winje In February 2009, the band released their debut EP “Ahoi de Angst”. Drawing on punk/ hardcore backgrounds the band crafted atmospheric rock reminiscent of Ride, My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, while showing their potential, writing catchy tunes like the single “Sleeping Heart”. The EP received critical acclaim, and took the band around Scandinavia, to their British neighbours and across the US. “Shiver” even found its way onto the hit English TV show Skins. Work on the new album started when the band toured the U.S. in April 2009, with stops on the east and west coasts including dates at SXSW. Shortly after, they were invited to record with Michael Patterson (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Beck, Lady Tron) in Hollywood. At “The Glory Hole Caverns”, the band laid down their first single “Solitary Rush”. Following Simon's exit, the band continued to tour abroad while recording in Norway. They played to a packed crowd at Lexington in London under the Drowned in Sound curated “JA JA JA” showcase, as well as at Brighton’s ‘The Great Escape’. New tracks were shaped both on stage and in the studio. With Bjarne Stensli (Serena-Maneesh, Mariibel, Harry’s Gym) and Nick Terry (Klaxons, Primal Scream, Serena Maneesh) as Co-Producers the band invited friends from bands like Harry’s Gym, I Was a King and Blackstrap to compliment the production. Nick Terry mixed the album in spring 2010. Brilliance Records is proud to present Simon Says No!, an uncompromising, solid, and brave debut album that draws on classic indie/ shoegaze while blending backgrounds in hardcore, and pop-rock.
