Sink This Ship! was the original name of a post-hardcore/electronica band formed in late 2008, consisting of vocalist Travis Bartosek, vocalist/guitarist Rudy Rosatti, guitarist Kevin Arquines, bassist Stephen Mallory, drummer Michael Yankovich, keyboardist Joey Webb, and guitarist Matthew Yankovich. In November 2010, the band changed their name to As Artifacts. After forming in Concord, CA, and establishing a name for themselves in the local scene in early 2009 with the original lineup of vocalists/keys players Rosatti and Steven Salka, guitarists Brian Parra and Arquines, bassist Mallory, and drummer Evan Look, Parra departed the band, and was temporarily replaced by Robin Sawaya. After the subsequent departure of Sawaya, the band remained a five piece until 2010. After the breakup of their previous band, He Said, She's Dead, and the departure of drummer Evan Look and vocalist/keys player Steven Salka moving to guitar, new vocalist Bartosek and drummer Michael Yankovich joined the band in early 2010. Further lineup changes occurred when Salka was removed from the band and Rosatti was moved to a guitarist position as well. The band recorded a three song demo at the Panda Studios with engineer/producer Sam Pura (Heavy Heavy Low Low, Suffokate, I Shot the Sheriff, BLEEDBEFORETHESKIES) in April 2010, and embarked on their first tour over the summer of 2010 with fellow local band Dance My Heart. After the tour and breakup of Dance My Heart, former DMH keyboardist Joey Webb rounded out the most recent lineup changes. On November 19th, 2010, Sink This Ship! announced they were changing their name to As Artifacts, for a variety of reasons, including to avoid confusion with other similarly named bands.
