Sons of Midnight are a five-piece Pop Rock band from Brisbane, Australia formed in 2007. Initially hailing as an acoustic duo, the band evolved from a more raw rhythm and blues sound in Conrad Sewell and Matt Copley and began their transformation by later adding in guitarist Peter Tep, bassist Mitchell Lewis, and finally drummer Maui Manu. Realising that they all had strong and different songwriting strengths, the band shed their earlier garage rock sound and started fresh by going backwards digging through older pop records and setting their sights on a bigger and expansive sound. In the beginning of 2008 those songwriting skills were developed further under the tutelage of internationally renowned publisher Hayden Bell (Savage Garden, The Veronicas). Understanding that history-defining acts stand on great songs Bell sent Sons of Midnight around the world from London, Stockholm, Los Angeles and New York. The next three years saw them working with not only producers whom Bell thought would help them further hone in on the sound he originally saw in them as teenagers, and with producers who were as big believers in them as he was. Such producers included Derek Bramble (David Bowie), Jeff Barry (The Ronettes,Neil Diamond,The Monkees), Charlie Midnight (James Brown, Joe Cocker), and their biggest influence to date Martin Hansen (The Rasmus, The Scorpions). Word of such heavyweight collaboration and guidance quickly caught the attention of the industries giants and Sons of Midnight were quickly signed with US manager Gary Stamler, Crowded House’s manager. After three years living out of suitcases, travelling from motel to hotel, floor to couch, and growing up in the studio, Sons of Midnight are now ready to let the world experience their backbreaking labour of love in their debut record, 921. http://www.sonsofmidnight.com/ Read more on Last.fm.
