Sparky Deathcap is the solo project of Robert Taylor, a singer, songwriter and musician from Manchester, England. Since 2009, Taylor has also been a member of the Cardiff, Wales-based indie band Los Campesinos! Primarily influenced by 90's lo-fi bands like Pavement, Smog and The Microphones, he has moved around a great deal stylistically and often performs material live that vastly differs from his recorded output. Galvanised by a 2007 tour with his idol, Daniel Johnston, Sparky has attempted to unite music and drawing wherever possible, often performing songs with accompanying drawings on an overhead projector. He also runs a cartoon and comics blog called Tearjerky.co.uk, which is updated almost daily. There are reportedly a number of new releases in the pipeline, including an EP, a full-length album, book and an animated version of his rock opera, "Misty and Mouffette", a story about love, loss and organ transplants which he has previously performed live. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0emOtm3M8E) In 2009, Taylor opened for Los Campesinos! on several tours and also performed as the band's auxiliary guitarist, percussionist and keyboardist and was a semi-official member of the band from that tour until July 2010, when he became an official member of the band.
