Tekniq are a Drum and Bass duo who over the years have released tunes on some of the biggest D&B labels around including Formation Records & Moving Shadow. JT and DJ Hostyle otherwise known as John Williams and Jonathan Wright met at school and started dabbling with music back in 1989 putting a few breaks and samples together using a Casio sampling keyboard and an Amiga computer. From that moment on John was hooked and started building a home studio where most Tekniq tracks are now produced. They have both been DJ’s since 1991 when they formed Tekniq. Previously DJ Hostyle had been getting DJ work at illegal raves and local club events around Norfolk. They had several residencies, including Intense and Camouflage in Norwich. Played at local events such as Rumble, Richard’s Parties, Dance Paradise and the infamous Bee’s Knees illegal raves and hosted a weekly show on their local radio station Coastal. Tekniq’s first release was in 1991 called 'Technophone' on Ozone Records, which was followed by ‘Belief’ that made it into the Mixmag charts and was a hit in Japan’s dance scene. Looking to take their sound further, Tekniq met up with DJ SS and joined the Formation Records camp. Starting with a couple of tracks for the F-Project they worked along side DJ SS and EQ on the Formation EP's 'Rhythm for Reasons' and 'Power Play', and also produced white label 12"s under the name of 'The Eastcoasters'. A number of 12’s were released on Formation Records. ‘Voyager” was championed by LTJ Bukem and DJ Peshey before it’s release in 1995. 'The Riot' released in 1996 and played to death by the likes of Grooverider, Randall, Bryan Gee, DJ Rap and of course DJ SS. "One Style" released in 1999 and was a Number 1 hit on the Radio One Drum and Bass Chart. They also had tracks on a number of Moving Shadow Records LP projects including the 'Storm from the East’ and 'Drumfunk Hooligans'. In 2002 Tekniq also released a 12” with Twisted Individual on his Grid Recordings label. Having taken a break from music production, Tekniq are now back in the studio and hoping to have some new material available soon. Read more on Last.fm.
