The Hazey Janes are: - Liam Brennan: Drums & Backing Vocals Alice Marra: Vocals & Acoustic Guitar Matthew Marra: Bass Andrew Mitchell: Lead Vocals & Guitar The band were formed in Dundee, Scotland in 1999. Their music, a rich and original fusion of traditional folk, country rock, and American power-pop reminiscent of Big Star and Velvet Crush, has defined the band's sound as energetic and uplifting. A quartet of accomplished musicians, The Hazey Janes' songwriting and performance is built on the exceptional vocal talents of Alice and Matthew, both of whom have strong musical backgrounds. Listening to the band's three-part harmonies, evident in much of their material, it's been obvious to audience and critic alike that the band brings a unique musical maturity to stage and studio. The last few years have seen the band tour extensively throughout the UK, performing both as headlining artists and as guests of several major acts such as Snow Patrol and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci. Recent shows include: The Ullapool Festival, The Wickerman Festival, T in the Park, Glasgow's Hogmanay celebration, Musicworks, Celtic Connections and, a headline slot at their home town's Christmas Festival, where they were invited to perform in front of more than 20,000 people. The outcome of The Hazey Janes' first recording efforts was the much anticipated self-titled mini-album, released in October 2004 on Measured Records. The album was warmly received by all sections of the media with one journalist citing their style as "sparkling pop-infused Nick Drake churned lovingly in with the indie-folk sensations of The Magic Numbers". Summer 2005 saw the band head to Spain to record the follow up and debut full-length album which was released on 6th February, 2006. The record, titled Hotel Radio, with its sweetened melodic content, pop-infused vocals, and a seamlessly melded combination of styles, promises to be the freshman masterpiece that propels the band into mainstream success. Signs of that success have already begun to materialise with the first single's ('Your Enemy' released on 30th Jan 2006) official UK Top 20 Indie Singles chart position. The same was achieved with their follow up single 'Always There' (out 15th May) when it entered the same chart at number 14. Having gained considerable momentum with both at BBC 6Music, Radio 2, and XFM, the third and final single 'Fire In The Sky' is expected to make the most impact upon its release on 16th October 2006. A full summer tour across the UK (their second of the year) commenced in May and the band have already played sold out shows in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and London whilst on their Jan/Feb tour. Most noticeably, though, The Hazey Janes recently made their debut appearance to a frenzied crowd at Austin's annual arts & media extravaganza, South by Southwest, in March of 2006 to much acclaim. The band head out on the road yet again for their biggest tour yet in October to coincide with the third single release, before which they'll support long time friends Snow Patrol at Edinburgh's Meadowbank Stadium for the T On The Fringe festival in August.
