Hailing from Somerville MA, The Lothars began in 1996 as an experimental indie band featuring three thereminists and an electric guitarist. During the course of several albums, though, the group has moved toward a more improvisational electroacoustic trance/drone sound. The Lothars tend to favor unusual performance situations: some of their live venues have included an underground mine shaft, two different planetariums, a rave in Vermont, live silent film accompaniment, a state forest, art galleries, a church chapel, and a community garden center. They've also made five appearances at the roving Terrastock festival. The current group lineup consists of Jon Bernhardt and Kris Thompson on theremins, Ramona Herboldsheimer on hammer dulcimer, and Dean Stiglitz on flute and electronics. Read more on Last.fm.
