The Suspects is a name shared by two different bands: 1.) A 3rd-wave ska band from Houston, Texas. The Suspects formed in early 1993 when Bill Grady and Charlie Esparza met via the bulletin board at the old Westheimer location of Sound Exchange Records. Other members of the band were slowly recruited, and The Suspects played their first show on October 3rd 1993 at the now defunct Hoi Polloi club on White Oak Drive in Houston. The Suspects broke up in August of 2002. In 2007, two reunion shows were held. In the summer of 2008, The suspects announced they would reunite as a full-time band once again. 2.) A street punk band from the Washington, DC area. Formed in 1993 and disbanded in 1998, The Suspects released two full length albums: 1994's Voice of America and 1996's New Dawn In The 21st Century. The band also recorded a split 7" with Violent Society, and released their own 7" entitled Uncle Sam. The band became known inside and outside of the Washington, DC area for their fast, aggressive sound and their defiant, working-class lyrics. Members of the band founded their own label, Torque Records, to release all of their recordings. Because of the eventual downfall of Torque Records, music from The Suspects is currently out of print. (In 2016, Grave Mistake records reissued Voice of America.) After the breakup of the band, drummer Kent Stax and bassist Chris Condayan went on to form another DC-based group called Spitfires United.
