There have been two groups called 'The Groop'; 1. A shortlived sunshine pop act, formed and disbanded in 1969. It consisted of Susan Musmanno, Corlynn Hanney, Brian Griffith and Richard Caruso. They recorded one self-titled LP in 1969, which remained an extreme obscurity until it was finally released on CD in 2007. At its best, it's sunshine pop at its finest, with soaring harmonies and elaborate string arrangements. 2. An Australian garage rock band, first formed in 1964, the original incarnation of which released a number of singles and two albums. The band won the Hoadley's National Battle of the Sounds in 1967, the year they released Woman You're Breaking Me, #6 in Melbourne and #12 in Sydney, from the album of the same name. Key members at that time were Ronnie Charles (vocals) and Brian Cadd. Their prize was return tickets to the UK. They were unsuccessful there, and returned to Australia in 1968 before breaking up in 1969. 3. Actually make that 3! Groop were formed in autumn 2000 by DJ's/musicians JOCASTA and MOONUS amidst the ambience of their psychedelic club Electric Orange in Soho, London. They toured the U.K. with the legendary post-punk band THE FALL at the end of 2000. Groop released a successful debut single, Moonbase Omega on the Stark Reality label in spring 2001. Followed by the intoxicating Voodoo Sitar / Kosmic Sound single. Kosmic Sound attributed to The Groop on this website is actually by groop as mentioned above. Read more on Last.fm.
