Thomas Otten

There are two artists named Thomas Otten: a French countertenor, and an American pianist. The album 'Wagner: Tristan Und Isolde' is by the American pianist. Biography of the French countertenor: Thomas Otten lives in Northern France. He is a countertenor singer with a unique style. Prior to finding his musical vocation Thomas worked as a biologist. He discovered his voice and musical talent quite late in life when he developed an interest in chamber music. He studied for a diploma in lyrical song at the Conservatoire National de Région (CNR) in Lille followed by further studies in early music at the CNR in Paris. It was then that he decided to make a complete career change and leave his job to become a professional singer. He joined several prestigious musical ensembles including Sagittarius, Akadêmia and Le Parlement de Musique, whilst continuing to develop his own musical style. When Thomas met the highly talented composer Frédéric Momont a friendship developed from their mutual desire for musical experimentation into the world of classical crossover. Their work together finally enabled Thomas to express and satisfy his search for authenticity and originality. This collaboration resulted in two albums released by Virgin Music, Close To Silence (released 1999) and Portraits (released 2003). Otten completed his third album with composer/producer, Frédéric Momont, in late 2010. It is a collaboration between Otten and soprano Stéphanie Arcadias.
