Tim Martin Benson was born on November 3rd, 1987. He is a Chicago based artist whose inspiration comes from all genres of music. Fitting no traditional musical mold, Benson’s characterizations is as uncertain as the age he began to sing. As a child he was not allowed to listen to Hip Hop or R&B, growing up on mainly Pop and Soul. His first love was Rock and Roll, but since his relationship with R&B began in high school, there has been no looking back. Benson first realized that he wanted to pursue a career in music in grade school. Later as he became influenced by the likes of New Edition, Jodeci and Boyz II Men, his interest in music grew. After hearing Tevin Campbell’s, “Stand Out”, featured on the film, A Goofy Movie, his desire to become famous was born. Benson now finds singing as a form of expression that is of no comparison to anything else that he knows; it is his identity. In high school, the group TriEnd was formed. TriEnd is comprised of Benson, along with his two brothers Aaron and Mathew. TriEnd can be described as old school doo-wop with an R&B and pop influence. In 2007, the group took 2nd place at the Showtime At The Apollo in Harlem, New York. Later that year, TriEnd begain recording with the Insomniax, comprised of Emile Ghantous and Erik Nelson. In 2008, Benson began working on a solo album with the Insomniax. His individual vocal performance has been compared to Ralph Tresvant from New Edition and Case. Benson hopes to reach the level of success of the aforementioned artists with a style that is his own. Although he plans to continue recording with TriEnd, he believes that he has his own individual message to portray. Inbedded in his musical ideology is the desire to reintroduce the “heart-felt love song”. According to Benson, love is his strongest emotion, and there is an absence of heart-felt emotional appeal in music and lyrics today. While working on his debut album, Benson and the Insomniax have inspired to convey a story through each of their songs. Read more on Last.fm.
