To the North are an Australian math rock band from Brisbane, Queensland. The band consists of guitarist Errol Hoffman (also of Still Rain Fell and formerly of Lorma Slavin), bassist Josh Strange (also of Quiet Steps), drummer Simon Reynolds (also of Epithets and Old Love; and formerly of The Gallery Kiss, Yellow Peril and They Are Night Zombies) and vocalist Cameron Gillard (also of Little Shadow and formerly of Sophora). The band originally came together in 2006, when Hoffman and Strange began writing new original material together following the demise of Lorma Slavin. Gillard, who ran the studio where Lorma Slavin rehearsed, was brought in; and the lineup was completed by Reynolds at the other members' request. The band played their first show in December of 2006 at Via Studios in Brisbane. Their debut EP, entitled Landscapes, was released in 2007 via Yellow Ghost Records. The following year, the band released a split EP with touring partners Ohana. The band also toured constantly, playing with artists such as La Quiete, Envy, The City on Film, Off Minor, Ampere and The Gifthorse. In 2009, the band funded and supported a national tour with American band La Dispute; which marked La Dispute's first-ever international shows. A second EP, entitled To Work and Not Feed, was also released this year. Its follow up, an EP entitled Indiscretion, was released in 2010 by Seaby Records. The band once again played with La Dispute in 2011, as well as releasing their debut LP, Lustre. Following two shows with This Town Needs Guns in March, the band undertook an extensive hiatus from performing. On April 27, 2012, the band played what they billed as their final show at the Red Hill Mansion in Brisbane. The band's members would undertake various projects during this time, most notably Quiet Steps and Little Shadow for Strange and Gillard, respectively. The band announced plans to tour the east coast of Australia in 2013 and played their first show back on January 18, 2014 at Crowbar in Brisbane. A new seven-inch, entitled "Departure," was released in April 2015 via Lesstalk Records/Eunoia Collective. Read more on Last.fm.
