Tribal Drift, founded by Cyrung, aka Craig Miller, and joined by Dougal Hallowes, Andrew Byrnes, Peter Smolik & Shiney Le fai, combines the ancient and wild sounds of the Australian Didgeridoo with contemporary techno grooves and dance sensibilities that pull their resources from across the globe in a jigsaw of musical creation; true one-world music. (from: global-trance.co.uk) Cyrung cut an unusual and striking figure on the streets of London in the 90s, with yard long dreadlocks, beard and flowing ethnic garb and at least one didgeridoo over his shoulder; fitting after his years of travel in India and other parts of Asia and his Aussie roots. He could best be described as part of the rainbow tribe of new age travellers . His music ranged from meditational “Spirit People” tapes (simple harmonic motion), to heavy didgeridoo rave music with his band called “Lunacy”, an experience best sampled live, and his main project Tribal Drift which umbrellaed his work for many years. Always willing to join fellow musicians you can hear his didge on many recordings from that time, as well as live performances with bands such as “Lights In A Fat City”. Not just a musician but a thinker too, he was even invited to give a talk to MPs at the Palace of Westminster on freedom. Albums: Collective Journeys '95 Debut album from Tribal Drift, is a trancey/tribal/ambient/call it what u like little number. And it's good. Didjeridoo's, tribal beats and chants send you on a journey into the land of Aborigines. The highlight is definitely 'Volcano' (available also on 12"), a 9 minute stomping drum/didge affair with one build-up after the next, that's been played at Return to the Source a number of times. A couple of the tracks are a bit weak, but overall it's a wicked debut from Tribal Drift. Track Listing: 1. The Void (7.50) 2. Belly - Earth and Space mix (9.05) 3. Fertile (8.43) 4. Ants (8.58) 5.
