Members Jonas - Vocals/Guitar Max - Lead Guitar Preston - Bass Nick - Drums Take shots at it all you want, but the one thing about anthemic hard rock is that it never goes out of style. Heavy music nowadays has come pretty far since the hazy sunset days of Zeppelin, Sabbath, and Priest, and more recently the indelible wave of 80’s arena rock, but that doesn’t mean there won’t always be roads leading back to it. Having recently released their debut full-length “Face Your Demons,” Montreal’s latest modern, hard rock sensations What Comes To Life have been on tour all summer in the U.S. and intend to stay on the road until their van breaks down or zombies devour its human contents somewhere in the Midwest. This never-stop-touring-or-die-trying attitude is one thing among others that sets What Comes To Life apart from other bands in their city. “We need to be on the road as much as possible and not have anything interfering,” asserts founding bassist Preston Ward; “One of the main goals of this band is to be dynamic and continually pushing forward so we don’t end up a one trick pony.” While critics and pantywastes will argue that it’s all been done before, there’s no place in true rock’n’roll for jaded hearts. And What Comes To Life are everything but that. Growing up as close friends, each member performed in separate and at times competing bands, until two years ago the stars aligned and the current incarnation of the band was officially born. Formerly named Endeavors and leaning towards metal as opposed to hard rock, the lineup experienced numerous shifts until the addition of Nick (drums), which completed the circle. Since then, What Comes To Life has released the bombastic, Kevin Jardine-produced LP “Face Your Demons,” which sees the band honing their studio and live sound to include piano and string sections, as well as gang vocals, which has led to a more sophisticated record than most could expect from the young band. Detailing what makes the band tick, Ward says the band “Sets out to make great music, honour our brotherhood, and believe in ourselves as a team.” With the saturation of same-sounding acts in heavy music regardless of the subgenre, his band strives “to avoid falling into any trends, and instead creating our own path in the music world.” This goes for not only their tight brand of aggressive hard rock with powerful choruses, but also their work ethic on the road, which is beginning to be well-documented. Well-received performances in support of international touring acts such as Firewind, Powerglove, and Molotov Solution, and a current tour across the entire U.S. with Stardog Champion, shows these guys have thick skin and aren’t afraid to put it to the test.
