Winston's Fumbs (previously known as Jimmy Winston & His Reflections) were the short-lived psychedelic group of singer and guitarist Jimmy Winston, whose primary claim was his brief membership in the Small Faces. (He played on the first couple of singles by the Small Faces before getting kicked out and replaced by Ian McLagan.) Winston had done one single as the frontman for Jimmy Winston and the Reflections in 1966 before forming Winston's Fumbs, whose only other member with some measure of fame was keyboardist Tony Kaye, later a part of Yes. Winston's Fumbs' sole single, "Real Crazy Apartment"/"Snow White," came out on RCA in the U.K. in June 1967. It was actually a quite good slab of hard mod-psychedelia with swirling guitars and assertive guitars. "Real Crazy Apartment" was a hybrid of hard mod pop and soul-influenced high backup harmonies; "Snow White," though it was placed on the B-side, was more psychedelic and more impressive, with the melodic story-song verses giving way to manic-tempoed, jazzy breaks, with frenzied organ. Not just a completist collector's item for Small Faces nuts, the single's one of the better 1967 British psych obscurities, and both sides (more often "Snow White") have been reissued on unauthorized and legitimate compilations. Both of the songs are on the 1996 German CD The Definitive Anthology of the Small Faces, on Repertoire. Read more on Last.fm.
