Women Of Mambazo was founded in 2001 by Nellie Shabalala, whose husband, Joseph, is the leader of the renowned Zulu group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Ladysmith was introduced to the world through Paul Simon's legendary Graceland project. Women Of Mambazo aimed to bring a female perspective to the traditional Zulu repertoire, singing of struggle, faith and love in the powerful, acapella style called iscathemiya. The fulfillment of a long dream, the couple finally had the chance to perform on stage togheter in May, 2002.
