Ethnic duet Sandal (ex-«Zhuzha & Petrovich»), Russia, Novosibirsk. • Zhuzha (Evgenia Zhukovskaja) – vocal & percussion. • Petrovich (Dmitry Rzhanitsyn) – percussion, programming & vocal. Members of this duet are professional musicians, there are many creative artworks behind their shoulders, concerts and festivals with many other collectives in various musical styles: jazz, fusion, ethnic, rock etc. The duet’s birthday has symbolically occurred at the opening of an ethnic exhibition from Samarqand in Novosibirsk’s State Museum of Local Lore on July, 2006. The first big performance out of the native city has taken place at the international festival “World Drums” on August, 2006 in Tolyatti and Samara, Russia. The duet propagandizes various ethnic cultures, not limiting themselves with any certain style. Using an authentic and modern presentation (exotic percussion, electronics, samples etc.), musicians achieve their own original sounding. The repertoire of this collective consist of songs in many different languages, such as Ancient-Persian and Hebrew, Arabian and Russian, Urdu, Hindi, Punjab, Sanskrit and the languages of the African tribes. In the spring of 2007 Zhuzha and Petrovich have made a trip to India to get acquainted closer with the mysterious Indian culture. In particular, Evgenia took lessons of a classical Indian Hindustani vocal while Dmitry spent his time learning to play tabla – national Indian drums. For the purpose of a cultural exchange Dmitry and Evgenia participated in many "jams" with the Indian musicians. Spring 2008 musicians has renamed his group... And now duet name is "Sandal". For its short existence, collective has managed to find many admirers of their creativity, participating in different ethnic festivals of Russia and cultural programs of the Russian cities. http://www.myspace.com/zhoozhapetrovich/ Read more on Last.fm.
