Get ready for pop-vamp MARLA, the London-bred and LA native pop starlet who wowed audiences as a finalist in the recent unsigned act competition, the Hollyoaks Music Show, aired on prime time Channel 4/ E4 and T4 in the UK. With an upbeat and original musical style and a distinctive singing voice, MARLA is a true storyteller and a gutsy live performer. She’s already played some key festivals and venues in London, including the Roundhouse, Secret Garden Party, YOYO, Proud Galleries, Hoxton Bar and Kitchen. After her success on Hollyoaks MARLA released her catchy debut promo track ‘Lipstick for the Vampires’, produced by Jony Rockstar (Sugababes, Lily Allen) and mixed by Pete Craigie (Take That, Kylie, Moby), as well as a great dance remix by Prince Vince. A featured new artist on the 4music homepage as well as ‘One to Watch’ on the Talk Talk music site, MARLA was on the front page of Itunes Pop and had the internet buzzing with her upbeat, quirky and creative pop lyrics. UK audiences heard Marla's emotional song ‘Home’ in the highly rated new BBC3/ Switch series 'Off the Hook'. ‘Home’ also features in the upcoming film ‘Café’, starring Jennifer Love Hewitt & Jamie Kennedy released later this year, and her track ‘40 winks’ featured in Lindsay Lohan’s 2009 movie ‘Labor Pains’. Marla’s music can also be heard in “The Passage” and soon to be released “Star Crossed” both directed by Mark Hellar. Marla is currently finishing up her first album, collaborating with acclaimed writers Tone, Blair Mackichan, Matt Prime, Jasmine Baird and Bleu Mcauley. You can catch her electric shows in the UK and the US this fall. A bit of Gwen Stefani, a touch of Feist and completely herself, the rather wonderful MARLA is one to watch.
