Artist Biography by Timothy Monger. Based on the south coast of England in pastoral Chichester, shoegaze trio Orange Yellow Red came together in 2008, recording their first demo, "All the Hopes." So effective was their effort that the song was immediately picked up by Invada Records (imprint of Portishead's Geoff Barrow) for the compilation The Secret Garden Vol. 1 - Nu-Gaze: The New Wave of Shoegaze. This ignited a flurry of interest in the band, but having only just formed, Orange Yellow Red decided to decline most of the gig offers and instead devote their time to writing and recording a proper album. Members Emma Hayward (vocals, bass), Philip John Mayor (vocals, drums, guitar, synth), and Ross King (guitar) sequestered themselves in their beach house studio and set about producing the dreamy, melodic guitar pop that would become their debut album, A Rose Made of Galaxies, which was released in late 2013 by Texas-based label Saint Marie Records.
