Pumpkin Jacket are an experimental alternative sometimes comedy rock group that formed in London, England in 2007. Their music combines elements of heavy metal, jazz, latin, rock, classical, reggae, funk, jazz fusion, and avant-garde music, among many others. The band is known to chop and change through several musical genres, often within the course of a single song. Pumpkin Jacket formed in 2007, and headed by lead guitarist Christian Miller, bass player Mark Smith, pianist Tom Jurkiewicz and bit part vocalists Jon Lyall and Rupert Birkin, though most of the vocals have been recorded by Miller and Smith. In Feb 2008 the band released their first album Master of Pumpkins, (a parody on the early Metalica release, Master of Puppets. In April 2009 the band released their second emission, entitled The Difficult Second Album, both albums were recorded at Pumpkin Towers, London and have been released on the Relaxo Records lable. Pumpkin Jacket claim to have been influenced by a variety of different artists in many different spheres of music, including Mr. Bungle, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Miles Davis, Allan Holdsworth, Bill Evans, Bob Marley, Primus, Frank Zappa, Theolonious Monk, Zu, Battles, the music of Bill Bailey, The Mighty Boosh and Vic and Bob's Mulligan and O'Hare to name a few. Their best known songs are "Banks", which satirizes the UK banking system and the current economic situation, the bossa-nova styled, guitar and bass duo "Magic Trousers". As well as writing original material Pumpkin Jacket have also performed covers of Miles Davis' "So What", and Bill Evans' "Nardis", as well as covers of 80s childrens TV programs "Rainbow" and "Grange Hill". All their covers so far have been radically different from the original recordings. http://www.myspace.com/pumpkinjacket1 Read more on Last.fm.
