Argentina Argentina Maria Pinto dos Santos, famous as Argentina Santos (Mouraria, Lisbon, 1926) is a Portuguese fado singer, considered one of the last divas. In 1950, she opened her restaurant "The Parreirinha of Alfama, in Lisbon and started her artistic career by singing for the visitors. Her strong, authentic, and very personal style caught the attention of the public and critics who proclaimed her as one of the greatest musical promises of the era. Among her greatest successes there are two saints (letter Augusto Martins and music of Fado Franklin) and Juras (letter from Alberto Music by Joaquim Rodrigues and Campos). After completing ten years after beginning of her career, recording in 1960 their first disc, with Chafariz songs like King's, Quadras (de António Botto), That night in January, Love is not sin, not by Dito said, Walk fadista, the magnitude of the Fado, I come knocking on the door, hurt with life, Reza, Quadras and loose My steps. The old generation par excellence, has made Argentina more international tours, which passed by Venezuela, Greece, Netherlands, Brazil, Italy, France and Scotland, among many others. Among the rooms where more than sung, are the Queen Elisabeth Hall in London, La Cité de la Musique in Paris, the Grand Auditorium of the BAC and the Colosseum Recreios, Lisbon, and the Cathedral of Marseilles. Participated in major projects related to fado, like the show "Saudade is White Hair", by Ricardo Pais, where, besides fados celebrezados by itself, also sings Lágrima of Amália Rodrigues. The director Carlos Saura immortalize the fado life lived and the voice of Argentina Santos singing it in the controversial 2007 film Fados, which joint interpretation of the world music stars like Mariza, Lila Downs, Carlos do Carmo, Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso and Lura. Is patron of the Academy of Fado in Racanati in Italy, which itself inaugurated. And in 2005, was awarded the Prix Amália Rodrigues Consecration of a career. Read more on Last.fm.
