Carré Manchot was founded in 1986 by Bombard players Herve Le Lu, accordionist Remi Martin, guitarist Gilbert Le Pennec and violinist Jean-Claude Riou. The originality and quality of many compositions of Remi Martin (musician who has inspired - and continues to inspire - hundreds of Breton accordion), arrangements and "colors" of their innovative music, are certainly not foreign to the immediate success of Carré Manchot, and have also greatly inspired the many groups of fest-noz that followed, creating a new dynamic in Breton music. From 1988, a shift occurs: the band turned professional and joined two new musicians to replace Remi Martin and Jean-Claude Riou. This is "the period of two Ronan" Ronan Robert diatonic accordion and violin Ronan Pinc. They will be part of the team for six years, including bringing their "paw" and their particular style that is very widely from school. It is in this formula that the group has really made ​​known, especially for its music and innovative arrangements - but also for its spirit of celebration, hosting a lot of fest-noz and chaining of many tours around the Europe (Spain, England, Germany, Holland) ... In 1994, both Ronan left the band for other musical projects. To mark the change, Carré Manchot decides to become a quintet. In February 1995, Carré Manchot is formed: Yannig Alory on flute, Yann-Loïc Joly diatonic accordion and Erwan Volant on bass. With this formula that the group will ride the wave of the Celtic year 1990 and become one of the groups of fest-noz most popular that Brittany has known. For ten years, more than 120 to 130 annual dates , great moments punctuated the life of the group: the Francofolies in La Rochelle, Bataclan and Cirque d'Hiver in Paris, the Transmusicales of Rennes, the festival Cleguerec, Lorient Inter-Celtic Festival ... But what was especially marked this period, is the creation of collective Liyannaj, Carré Manchot Group meeting with musicians from Guadeloupe Akiyo Ka (percussionists and singers). Liyannaj was heard at the Grande Halle de la Villette in 1998, in Nantes, Cleguerec festival in Lorient, in Guadeloupe and Martinique and the general Rudolstadt Festival in Germany. One of the titles on the disc Liyannaj serve as a generic issue of Philippe Meyer on France Inter. In 2005, drummer Stéphane Sotin (ex-Gilles Servat musician, and member of Skeduz year In Stock) replaces Erwan Volant. The band went on a new basis. This year 2005 is already strong in experiments since Carré Manchot went to Cambodia to lay a bridge between Breton music and music of the Khmer group Urba (Orchestra of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh). This meeting will remain a very powerful moment in the life of the group. On 13 July 2006 the group celebrated 20 years of mature from Brittany on the shores of Lake Guerlédan.
