Colin MacIntyre is a Scottish singer, song-writer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and author. His previous albums have been released under the name Mull Historical Society, even though the moniker consists of Colin alone. He has released 3 albums under the ‘Mull’ pseudonym : ‘Loss’(2001), ‘Us’(2003) & ‘This Is Hope’(2004). “Loss” went on to receive tremendous critical acclaim and many “albums of the year” polls and is nearing 100,000 sales in the UK alone. In just a year, Colin went from supporting The Strokes on their debut UK tour to selling-out the 2000 capacity Shepherds Bush Empire, and touring with REM. Colin has dropped the ‘MHS’ moniker and released his 4th studio album ‘The Water’ under his own name in ’08. This album saw Colin MacIntyre break with tradition both in using his own name and in working with a producer for the first time (Loss, Us and This is Hope were self produced). The album was produced by Nick Franglen from the group Lemon Jelly. The Guardian called it 'Pop perfection', and the NME said 'All hail Colin!' So far Colin has achieved 4 Top 40 Chart hits, and 2 Top 20 albums, and has toured the U.K., Europe and the U.S.A. A songwriting junkie, oblivious to passing trends, he has become more than just Mull's local hero. Colin has completed his new album for release in July 2009. It is now released (July 6th). It is called 'Island' and is his most acoustic-orientated album to date. It was recorded back on Isle of Mull in his old classroom (now a studio). The CD features a short story from his new collection based on the album's song titles. One is to be made into a play and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Press quotes on 'Island' : "Intensely personal and irresistibly melodic songs." 4/5 The Mirror "MacIntyre's sound has open-hearted, epic honesty. Island is an eerie folk-rock mystery with compelling melody lines." Mojo "Surreal maritime sagas. An insistent chugger that ranks alongside the best from the man from Mull Historical Society." The Times "MacIntyre has gone back to his roots with this album. 'Cape Wrath' is cracking, with twists and turns. Also features a lovely King Creosote collaboration. Beautiful." 4/5 The Sunday Mail "‘Island’ sees MacIntyre take influence from traditional British roots music in a largely stripped-down effort. A well-paced and lovingly-crafted album." 4/5 The Fly "Ned's Song (Brother) is a standout moment. Delivered in the intimate country folk style. Reminiscent of a Caledonian Will Oldham." The Scotsman "Written in the States, but recorded back home on Mull with the aid of the community. 'Island' should appeal to those who like the more commercial aspects of Nick Cave."
