Coriphaeus is a German electronic-music-project that is best known for creating emotional and dreamlike trance music. Music that lets you dream away and feel like dancing at the same time. However, the sound of coriphaeus is by no means limited to dream- and melodic trance. As Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren already said: “What makes trance work so well is that it doesn’t stick to one style, and can incorporate electro, minimal, whatever it likes.” As a trance artist that gives you the unique possibilty to experiment on new sounds and ideas without scaring fans away. Producer behind coriphaeus is Jan-Christoph Allermann. Born in Aken, Germany (on February 12th, 1978) he quickly developed a passion for all sorts of music and started collecting records at a very young age. His destiny was sealed when he received a classical guitar as a gift from one of his uncles on his tenth birthday. Over the following years, he learned guitar on his own and started to compose his own music. At the age of 14 he discovered the piano, which he was taught for several years. After his Abitur (diploma from German secondary school qualifying for university admission or matriculation) in 1997 at the German School of Brussels he moved to Saarbrücken (Germany) where he started to study law. At the same time his passion for music remained unbroken and he spent lots of time composing new songs on his much beloved Kurzweil K-2000 Synthesizer. Around 2002 though, he started to suffer from Tinnitus and for a couple of months his life came to a halt. In the end it was mostly music that helped him to recover from the Tinnitus-Syndrome. A few years later he dropped out of law school at Saarland University and switched to a new study course. He now studies English and German in order to become a teacher. In 2007 he started producing on a more professional level with Fruity Loops and other equipment. Since then some fine trance tracks were produced and he is busily working on new tracks. "Music means everything to me. It's not just a hobby. For me there is nothing greater in life than putting your very own experiences and feelings into a song", says Jan-Christoph. His favorite Trance project is Chicane. Their songs "Saltwater", "Atumn Tactics" and "Offshore (2007 Edit)" have inspired him a lot. Since May 2008 people are able to get their hands on his first official release which is called "30 years". The song is part of the trance compilation "Trance Trip Vol.1" which was released by the trance label REALITY BITES RECORDS. Amongst others, the compilation features famous Trance acts such as "Will Holland", "John O' Callagahn" and "Mystery Island (Jani Kervinen)". The track/compilation is available on almost all well known download-platforms (Itunes, Beatport, Musicload) and marks coriphaeus' first step into the professional music business. Right now things are going strong for coriphaeus and "30 Years" has been chosen to be part of a "Best of 2008" Trance compilation, which will see a worldwide online release on December 2nd, 2008.
