DAC Crowell (b. 1961) is a composer/performer of primarily electroacoustic ambient works. Beginning with experiments in ambient music in the early 1980s, Crowell went on to form the ensemble LVXUS in his native Nashville, TN in 1986, performing a number of "installation concerts" with the group. After the death of his collaborator Jim Irwin, Crowell went on to pursue solo work, beginning in the early 1990s and continuing to this day. His work has been released on a number of smaller and net-based labels, notably Suilven Recordings (collaborating there with Kurt Doles and Daniel Patrick Quinn) and Magnatune, often in sweeping long-form works that last well over half an hour. His academic studies included two sessions of study with the pioneering German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, as well as with the American maverick composer Salvatore Martirano. Crowell's works as of the time of this writing can be found on the Magnatune netlabel, with works also upcoming on the German label Ex Ovo and on the American Divine Frequencies label.
