At his very young age, Psalmist DeWayne L. Woods has already acquired a wide variety of music and performing arts experience. He was educated at the Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts from 1989-1993, where he studied acting and directing with a minor study in vocal music and music theory. DeWayne's singing experience is complete from working with popular R&B groups to award-winning gospel artists. From 1982-1995, DeWayne sang with a group, Joy Unlimited, and provided lead vocals for three songs featured on their album, "Statement of Direction". Since 1995, he has provided both lead and background vocals with popular artists, such as John P. Kee & the New Life Community Choir (lead vocals on album and video "Show Up"), Donald Lawrence & the Tri-City Singers (lead vocals on album "Go Get Your Life Back"and also Act Two of the Finale' where DeWayne shared his personal testimony of God's healing power), Kurt Carr & the Kurt Carr Singers, Mark Hubbard and the Voices (Lead Vocals on the title cut "Blessing Waitin on Me" as well as Assistant Vocal Director of the ministry) and Atlantic Starr (lead vocals on albums "All Because of You" and "Legacy"). Additionally, he's provided background vocals for such projects as Byron Cage (Byron Cage), Karen Clark-Sheard (The Heavens are Telling) and many others. He's also provided choir leadership accompanying Celine Dion (1995) and Kirk Whalum (2000). DeWayne also shared as Vocal Producer for Byron Cage's latest project, "An Invitation to Worship" sharing with Grammy Nominated producers, PAJAM. Just as distinguished as his singing career is DeWayne's acting career. He has participated in stage plays since 1992, and has shared the stage with a long list of celebrities, including Peabo Bryson, Dave Hollister, Morris Day, Deneice Williams, Cuba Gooding Sr., Johnny Gill, Dottie Peoples, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Jesse Campbell, Dr. Dre, Ed Lover, MC Lyte, and Al Sharpton, just to name a few. He's also added to his accomplishments starring in the critically acclaimed musical "Sing Hallelujah" which was written and directed by Donald Lawrence and Worth Gardner. In addition to stage-acting, he has appeared in the HBO special, Boycott: Start Walkin', which aired in February, 2003 during Black History month. DeWayne has recently added to his range of experience by embarking upon his first literary work, an autobiography entitled "Not Unto Death: Chronicles of Overcoming Through the Blood and a Testimony". This personal story of inspiration reveals the depth of his physical struggle of affliction and pursuit of Christian ministry. To add to his achievements are his many accolades. He gained recognition of R&B record executives, Randy Jackson and Lance Alexander of Baby Honey Productions, which resulted from an article written in the KC Star Newspaper, through which over 3000 readers called in to listen to DeWayne's music, exceeding the then-current ..1 hit, "Achy Brakey Heart". Additionally, DeWayne sang at the White House along with Atlantic Starr for the President of the United States. He has also been interviewed on all major television stations in Kansas City, MO and worldwide. This rising star is continuing to add to his range of experience and talent. DeWayne has been fortunate to sign with the industries top record label, Verity records, under the umbrella of Quiet Waters Entertainment/Jive/Zomba Records, with record executive Donald Lawrence. You can expect a mid-summer 2006 release of his freshman project under this new label. DeWayne is also very fortunate to serve as Praise and Worship Leader for one of Georgia's fastest growing churches, Divine Faith Ministries International in Atlanta, Ga. under the leadership of Pastors Donald & Gwen Battle. All in all, DeWayne's greatest development is his vocal ensemble, When Singers Meet. In 2003, DeWayne L. Woods and When Singers Meet release the independent project "The Poets the Psalms and the Psalmists" which received rave reviews throughout the nation. Since that time, DeWayne L. Woods and When Singers Meet has gone on to become the featured background ensemble on Teresa Hairstons Gospel Heritage Project "G3" and was also featured on Darwin Hobbs' latest project entitled "Worshipper". Needless to say the upcoming years are sure to place DeWayne and his group in an ever-increasing place of distinction in the music and entertainment fields, and he never ceases to thank God for making it all possible.
