Gerry And The Holograms were John Scott and C.P. Lee. John Scott was involved with Manchester artists John Cooper Clarke and Jilted John, and had another band (or possibly a solo project) called 48 Chairs. Christopher Paul Lee a.k.a. Chris Lee had been a member of Alberto y Lost Trio Paranoias until that band has disbanded in 1978. They released two singles on the Absurd label in 1979. The first - "Meet The Dissidents" - was a Residents-styled industrial record, using distortion and repetition. The second, "Emperor's New Music", was a conceptual joke since it was unplayable. The record actually consisted of a badly-pressed Slaughter And The Dogs single glued into the sleeve. Frank Zappa was such a big fan, that Lee at one time auditioned for his band the Mothers of Invention. Both Lee and Zappa decided it wouldn't be a good idea after all. In 2017 the album "The Complete Unreleased LP" was released on the Finders Keepers label with unreleased material. Read more on Last.fm.
