the Kitchen Recordings by iET – pure home made Originally, the kitchen was also the studio where singer-songwriter iET (Lisa van Viegen) cooked & recorded her songs. Pure and honest. Like cooking a dish. So the name ‘Kitchen Recordings’ can be interpreted literally. However, it goes beyond that explanation. The name illustrates an exceptional way of working en stands for a modest and honest concept, very private, having the kitchen as the work shop, the centre of a special chef brewing an exceptional melting pot. The comparison to food depicts the pure, honest and homely atmosphere from which the music originates. And it is that certain piece of ‘home made’ that so strongly defines the feel of the songs, their nature, their importance and the specific, personal ingredients, all recorded through an old mic. From the small mouth percussion forming a beat, to the layers of trumpet, flugelhorn and voices creating a brass band and of course the old and wise double bass, an inherited family piece that’s hums along on several tracks. On the Kitchen Recordings the typical sounds of the kitchen itself are part of the music too. Kitchen closet doors create a beat, rhythms of stamping feet on the wooden kitchen floor, hand claps, the sounds of porcelain thee cups, saucers and coffee mugs tinkle on the kitchen table. Even the sounds of cooking, a door that opens, someone entering the kitchen, the dog that barks and the cats meow, or a beautiful thunderstorm recorded during a vocal take … together these are the backgrounds of a Kitchen Recording, literally and figuratively. The mic is always open; one can hear the kitchen. All tracks are written, performed, and recorded by iET and then mixed and mastered by Budy Mokoginta (Mokosound Studio), who also is present on electric guitar and bass. Some of the songs that where created during the Kitchen Recordings, have been expanded into full band songs, performed with drums, bass, extra guitars, a turntablist and the touch of legendary producer Russ “the Dragon” Elevado. The results of these expanded works of art will be released later in 2011 as the long awaited album called So Unreal, by iET. Meanwhile, Kitchen Recordings Series 1 is out, and Kitchen Recordings Serie 2 is in the making, featuring a lot of collaborations with other artists. Ingrid Baars created the beautiful artwork of the Kitchen Recordings Series 1 and for So Unreal. The Series 1 artwork is inspired by the first track that will be released: The Field. Live, the Kitchen Recordings are presented with iET on vocals, guitar and trumpet.
