JONAS AND PLUNKETT Jonas and Plunkett are a songwriting duo from London. They write and perform songs with strong melodies and intelligent, memorable lyrics. The songs are positive and upbeat, yet emotionally appealing. The performance is pure with frequent use of vocal harmony - echoing the sounds of the Everly Brothers, Lennon and McCartney and Simon and Garfunkel. The sound of the live performances is matched in the studio recordings with sparse use of percussion, allowing the vocal blend, and natural organic sounds of the acoustic guitar and cello to combine perfectly. The organic sound works because the songs are worth singing; they have been crafted and honed over countless live performances in various venues from bedrooms to arenas. Who are they? Jonas has grown up in the world of music, and achieved musical success in his early years. Before he even met Plunkett, he was credited on a double platinum album (The Minipops) and a gold album (Absolute Beginners). As he grew up he maintained his interest in music, and started to started to fit melodies and words to piano chords, and developed his own song-writing style. He continued this interest throughout his university days – when he met Plunkett, but has also managed to establish himself as a TV presenter on channels 4 and 5. Plunkett is an accomplished guitarist and songwriter who also happens to work as a doctor in an intensive care unit in a London Children’s Hospital. Listening to his songs it is clear that he grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel and the Beatles. He met Jonas at Cambridge university where they became friends. Years later, after a conversation around a piano, they decided to work together to write a song. Within a few months they had written 30 songs, scored a number 1 hit on the world’s biggest internet chart, generated interest from major and independent labels and featured on BBC Radio 2 to great acclaim. They started performing and recording at acoustic venues in London, and over the next 2 years honed their sound to what it is today. The organic sound is largely thanks to their love of pure acoustic intruments like the cello, piano and acoustic guitar, but is added to by the production touches of Mike Hurst. Mike has plenty of experience in the music industry, having produced hit records by Cat Sevens, Manfred Mann and The Spencer Davis Group. The sounds of the 60’s and 70’s are brought out in his production work on Jonas and Plunkett’s songs; a style that suits the songs perfectly. What are they doing now? Jonas and Plunkett are adding the final touches to their debut album: “This is who we are”, which will be available in the summer of 2007. Until it’s release date, you can hear the songs at their live performances at a few exclusive venues in London.
