King Mo’s music can best be described as soulful blues with a rock-edge. In addition to their original songs they play King Mo arrangements of Freddie King and Ian Siegal tunes. Their 3rd CD "King Of The Town" was released May 28, 2011. 3 nominations for the Dutch Blues Awards, 2 times CD of the year, the band performed on stages like the BB King’s Blues Club in Memphis, or Dutch major festival Ribs & Blues in Raalte, a record deal with Grooveyard Records (USA), are references that count in only the two years the band has been touring. Lefty-guitarist ‘young’ Sjors Nederlof (nominated best blues guitarist in Holland) is undoubtedly the centre of attention in the band. He has toured extensively with Coup de Grace and the Strikes, as well as recorded and toured with Tino Gonzales. His unique Fender sound leaves no one untouched. Where other guitarists need a complete pedal board to create their sound, Sjors just needs his fingers. Singer Phil Bee (nominated best blues singer in Holland) has performed and toured with the likes of Noel Redding (Jimi Hendrix Experience), Jan Akkerman, Steve Lukather (Toto) and Ana Popovic. With his previous band Phil Bee and the Buzztones he has played major festivals and venues (see above), as well as recording 2 CD’s with the band on the independent Inbetweens label. Hammond organist Colly Franssen has performed with a long list of musicians, from Jan Akkerman to Bertus Borgers to Arno Adams. His Hammond C3 from 1963 is essential for the typical King MO sound. Bassplayer Roelof Klijn joined the band in february 2011. He toured with Sjors in their former bands, Coup de Grace and the Strikes, has a solid Jazz Bass sound and steady as a rock. In Dec. 2011, King Mo announced that 2011 Dutch Blues Awards nominee, drummer Andreas Robbie Carree had joined King Mo. Besides studying at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, he toured the USA and Europe with the likes of Eelco Gelling, Mr. Boogie Woogie, Simon Rigter, Taildragger, Grams & Krieger, Nico Wayne Toussaint and blues harp legend Jerry Portnoy. He is replacing drummer Henk Punter who earned his stripes playing and recording with the likes of Memo Gonzales, Monti Amunson, Lazy Lester, T-99 to name a few. He is a blues drummer with heart and soul, and was responsible for King Mo’s fat grooves. Read more on Last.fm.
