Lex began her life in a somewhat nomadic manner, traversing the High Sierra and sparkling coast of Southern California. In her pre-teen years, she resided amongst the beach towns of Orange County where she developed aspirations to one day become a full lyric soprano. Meanwhile, Lex discovered the guitar and started writing songs, incorporating a unique style of finger picking and rhythm. Although her disciplined study of voice and concert music was an excellent catalyst to her innate talent, the rigid confines of classical study was soon to become a hard-edged dream in her past. After spending almost two years at Chapman University, where she continued her voice and music education, she sensed that her college experience had perhaps run its course. At age 19, Land had a chance meeting with producer Shannon Edgar at one of her performances in Fullerton, CA. Edgar had previously heard some of her bedroom demos, and immediately wanted to help this floundering up-and-comer flourish. After months of train rides between her then hometown, the city of Orange, and Los Angeles, the time came to head into Ocean Studios in Burbank, CA to begin the recording process. Those sessions blossomed into what is now her debut album, “Orange Days on Lemon Street.” The title was coined after the period of time in which Lex penned the songs for the record while living in Orange, on a street duly named “Lemon”. Within Land’s distinct vocals, you may hear the ghost of Judy Garland whispering velvety and soft, or the roar of a mistreated lioness. Her voice is versatile yet familiar, but her sound is all her own. At the current age of 21, the now LA-based, genre-hopping songwriter has reinvented the art of confessional songwriting and embroidered it with a purer, uncontrived disposition. On ODOLS, Land articulates sentiments from the preemptive knowledge of heartbreak to missing a parent, and her words resonate with a truth that lures the listener into her world.
