Los Abandoned were an American alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 2000. Known for their creative use of "Spanglish", Los Abandoned quickly gained a strong local fanbase in multicultural LA. They are also considered to be a Latin rock or Rock en español band, since much of their lyrics, song titles, hooks, and choruses are in Spanish or bilingual in English. The band was fronted by bilingual lead singer María del Pilar aka Pilar Díaz (or Lady P), who is of Chilean heritage. During one point in their career they were signed by Maverick Records, but were eventually dropped from the label and picked up by Vapor. Their biggest hits include Panic-oh, Van Nuys Es Very Nice, and Stalk U. Before splitting, the band successfully released two EPs and one LP. During their relatively short career, Los Abandoned performed with legendary musicians such as Café Tacuba, The Breeders, Caléxico, Julieta Venegas, Molotov and Aterciopelados. The band participated in both the 2004 and 2006 South By Southwest festivals in Austin, Texas. Another highlight was playing the Latin Alternative Music Conferance on the Santa Monica Pier in 2005, alongside Mexican singer-songwriter Ely Guerra and Columbian pop singer Andrea Echeverri. The band's philanthropic contributions include opening the Bridge School Benefit for Paul McCartney, Neil Young, and the legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers. They announced their split during summer 2007. Pilar Diaz continues to record as a solo artist. Read more on Last.fm.
