Markéta Irglová

Markéta Irglová (born 1988, Valašské Meziříčí, Czech Republic) is a Czech musician, songwriter and actress. She relocated several times for professional and personal reasons, from Prague, to Dublin, to New York and, since 2011, she permanently moved to Reykjavík, Iceland. Irglová began playing the piano at the age of seven and the guitar at nine, when she started learning songs by ear. She met Glen Hansard of the Irish rock band The Frames when he was visiting Prague, and started a personal relationship and a musical collaboration. They released an album, The Swell Season on Overcoat Recordings in (2006). In 2007, both starred in the Irish film Once. This won the World Cinema Audience Award for a dramatic film at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, and an Oscar for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture, "Falling Slowly", composed by them. They performed live at the Kodak Theatre, Los Angeles. The couple splitted in friendly terms.
