Osmani Soundz

Osmani Soundz originally started out as Osmani Knights in 1988 as a Sound System and a Collective of Djs , Rappers , Dancers and Graphics Artists based in Londons East End. Working through their local youth club PYO (Progressive Youth Organisation) at the Davenant Centre (Whitchapel), they established themselves organising partys in Youth Clubs,Colleges ,Schools around the East End… aswell as Dj workshops with young people of the area. By the late 80’s Osmani Soundz Dj sets were about experimenting and mixing with old 12’’ - 7” records ranging from Classical Indian, Bollywood soundtracks and Baul Music and combining them with Hip Hop, Acid House,Techno dance music. In 1993 The Osmani Soundz Collective held their fortnightly club night called The Ancient Gallery at the Bass Clef which later became the infamous Blue note – Hoxton shoreditch. By 1994 Shohid (Osmani Soundz) had produced one of the very first Asian Drum and Bass track titled “ Spiritual Masterkey ” featured on the cultural fusion CD which released as a community music project. Than in 1996 “Spiritual Masterkey” was re-released for the Anokha - Soundz of the Asian Underground compilation album compiled by Talvin Singh. The response of the album was Phenomenal. This lead on to him representing Anokha as a resident Dj at the legendary weekly Sessions at the Blue note – Hoxton. Osman Soundz was well known for playing some exciting and memorable sets back then using a Mini disc player,Portable cd player and 2 x 1210’s taking the crowd on musical fuelled journeys… Moving on from the Blue Note the Anokha crew continued the global journey with a new project at the Vibe Bar called Calcutta Cyber Cafe sunday sessions… Pushing forward Live Experimental, Abstract, Turntableism three deck tripple back2back sessions with live visual artists. Osmani Soundz continued his residency with Anokha when it moved to the End club (Holborn), Fabric (Smithfields) and 93 Feet East (Brick Lane) aswell as the tours around the Globe… Osmani Soundz also Supported Talvin Singh at his only “OK” live album performance at the Londons Barbican centre after Winning the Mercury Music Award. Osmani Soundz teamed up with Equal-i,Mukul and D Mehta to start a project called Arrythmia at the Bridge and Tunnel Club (Shoreditch) in 2002 a very chilled experimental ambiant Sunday Session with Live Vjs. Osmani Soundz also held residency at Nasha Records Monthly Club Night Eastern Drum and Breaks at Herbal (Shoreditch) (2003/2006) and Nasha Live @ Gramaphone (Spitalfields) (2006/2008) In 2005 Osmani Soundz and Ges-e aka “The Nasha Experience” went to India for a live Project to perform and headline the Jaipur Intrnational Music Festival along side Aref Durvesh and featuring the great sarangi player Ustad Ramzan Khan of Rajasthan. The Nasha Experience dance work has been featured at the Royal Opera House, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Spitalfields, Greenwich and docklands Festival and Trafalger Square Festivals. The Nasha Experience composed music for Vena Rampal’s - The City Dreams contemporary dance performance at Trafalger Square festival (2005). Tiger in the East - Kenetika at Three Mills Studio - Bow (2006). Shiva Dance with Vena Rampal and Tara Arts at Trafalger Square Festival (2007). Tara in the Sky - Tara Arts at Trafalger Square Festival (2007). The Nasha Experience Live collaboration projects included performing at the Cladestino Music Festival (Sweden) Featuring Swati Natekar, Aref Durvesh, Akterv8r and Kumar. Womex (Gates Head) Featuring Chandru, Lille 3000 Festival in France 2006, Also playing alongside Nitin Sawhney’s band at the BBC ELECTRIC PROMS at the Round House (2006), BBC PROMS at the ROYAL ALBERT HALL (2007) and a week at the Famous London Jazz Cafe(2007). Osmani Soundz and Ges-e have since set up N.E.M.M.O. (Nasha Education Music and Multimedia Organization) an education wing of Nasha Records, helping young people in Tower Hamlets to be creative and helping young people achieve accredited qualifications in music and multi media leading on to higher education. The latest and most anticipated project the “Nasha V3” compilation album is due to be released late 2008 featuring 16 tracks from Ges-e, Osmani Soundz, Sukh Knight, Shandy, Nuphlo, G9, Pyarelal and The Nasha Experience.
