Sign Language formed in 1981 in Blackpool, Lancashire, UK. Initially influenced by the spirit of the first wave of British Punk Bands, Sign Language developed a more new wave/post punk sound akin to their peers at the time, Joy Division,Killing Joke and early U2(Boy LP). After honing down their set of songs, Sign Language gained a strong reputation as an energetic live act, which lead to a gig review and interview in "Punk Lives" Magazine, as well as numerous fanzines. Sign Language also produced the "Inside Sign" Fanzine which ran for 6 editions. In 1983 Sign Language contributed a track, "The Killing" to the Blackpool Rox e.p. no 2, which was released on The Membranes Vinyl Drip record Label. In 1984, Sign Language signed to Fire Records in London, home to bands such as Pulp, Spacemen 3, Blyue Aeroplanes, Close Lobsters and TV Personalities. Their debut 12 Single "Belief and other propaganda", was released in 1986, gaining national airplay and glowing reviews from Sounds and NME Music papers. The band split up in 1987. In 2005, the original members of the band reformed, their unreleased track, ''Love and Glory'' was included in The Ugly Truth About Blackpool Vol.1 CD (JSNTGM Records) and they have played a number of low key gigs around the Fylde coast.
