There are at least 3 different bands called Stems: 1) This dude I know. Has a band called Stems. 2) Stems are a band based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire (UK). Art rock embellished with strings - epic cinematic compositions full of sweeping elegant darkness and hypnotic delicate intensity. 3) The Stems are an Australian garage / indie rock group. Emerged in the early 80's - obviously heavily influenced by 60's garage (Lots of fuzz!)following indifference to band leader Dom Mariani's previous band the Gostarts. The band took Perth by storm and quickly built a sizable following with the rest of Australia catching on shortly afterwards. With catchy and fashionable tunes like 'She's A Monster' 'Rosebud' and 'Tears Me in Two' they quickly became the darlings of community and student radio and played to packed pubs across the country. The band achieved some commercial chart success with a single 'At First Sight' in 1986 which was also the title of their debut album on Mushroom's White label. The song gained some notoriety as being on the soundtrack of a Yahoo Serious movie of the time. Hailed by many as one of Australia's next big things, the band then surprised everyone by promptly disbanding, only to gain cult status over the ensuing 20 years. A compilation "Mushroom Soup" was released by Citadel to coincide with their successful reunion tour of 2005 and featured their early recordings and independent singles. The Stems were finally enticed back into the studio in 2007 and released the solid "Heads Up" album - 21 years after their previous studio effort. Read more on Last.fm.
