Superpumas

Superpumas are longtime Swedish friends Carl-Henrik Hallén and Daniel Nordh. Originally recording as Kompis after forming the duo in 1999, their passionate love for electronic music led them to produce sublime electro infused pop. Kompis developed a close relationship with the Norwegian label Tellé records (former home to Röyksopp, Kings of Convenience, Annie etc.) which led the way to the release of the critically acclaimed 7" 'First Base On The Moon' by their alter egos Basecamp Wolf. Their live show had now developed further and word of their talent finally began to spread to the UK, with DJs such as Rob Da Bank championing their innovative electronic pop sound. More critical acclaim and the word spread even as far as these shores, with the the notoriously hard-to-please English public picking up on the vibe. In 2002 Kompis released the single 'Clouds Instead Of Heads' on Ultimate Dilemma, and things really started to move. As well as making plenty of new friends and supporters in the UK, Kompis also turned out a bunch of great remixes for artists including Mint Royale, Plej and Palace of Pleasure. Kompis were soon picked up by Sunday Best, who released their self-titled mini-album in May 2005, with two singles also taken from the glorious collection. Vocals were supplied not only by Kompis themsleves, but by guest vocalists Markus Hasselblom ('Go Down', 'We Move') and Hanna Göransson ('Filthy Bills', 'In Somebody's Spot'), adding some real class to the proceedings. Following a pause for thought, a short break and a slight change of direction, the duo are now signed to exceptional a new psydoneum. Superpumas, loosely translated, means hottie, babe, chick etc in Swedish. They craft hypnotic, addictive slices of electronica for your enjoyment. The Glider EP was the first release on exceptional, featuring a killer combination of sinuous grooves, insidious vocals and glittering electronic beats. This soon won them fans as diverse as Mylo, Infadels, Kissy Sell Out and Ewan Pearson among many others. Current release Fading is an immaculately produced, crisp electronic house with a dark sexy edge. It features the insidious vocals of Maria Kask, and is not miles away from the recent Roisin Murphy / Herbert collaboration. The debut full length album from Superpumas, Muscles, has also arrived - imagine if Lindstrom & Prins Thomas produced music with Mylo's pop sensibility. Read more on Last.fm.
