Tegan Northwood is a singer-songwriter from NSW, Australia, who creates songs and sound pieces that span several genres, from alternative pop to ambient electronica to experimental. She has recorded and released three albums between 1994 and 2008. "Aer Purus" was a collaboration with Tim James (ex Feverdream, a Melbourne band) and released only on cassette. 'Self-Raising Flower' was completed and released independently in 2000, now available through Endgame Records. 'Last Days of Home' has just been released through Endgame (2008). A standout feature of Tegan’s music is the airy, ethereal quality of her voice and her distinctive sense of harmony and vocal arrangements. Her voice has been likened to Liz Frazer (Cocteau Twins), Harriet Wheeler (The Sundays) and Bjork. She plays guitar using many open tunings, and uses software, samples and field recordings to create layered, somewhat ambient electronic pieces with guitars. She's worked with Pete Rivett-Carnac from Single Gun Theory, Social Interiors, Jodi Phillis (ex-Clouds), Matt Tonks, and Robyne Dunn. She also works closely with Shane Fahey from Social Interiors on an environmental soundscape project using field recordings from Durras and Murramurang National Park, NSW. Read more on Last.fm.
