They call their music electro-soul. Like the three very different individuals who make up Unklejam, it's loud, colourful and funky but thoughtful too, with instant pop hooks and a heart full of soul. Listen hard and you'll hear echoes of P-funk and Larry Levan's radical dance mixes, the sweet sound of classic soul mixing with 80s electro-pop, all with an edge that's totally contemporary, immediately commercial, yet oddly hard to place. It doesn't sound like anything else around. Which is exactly the point. The name Unklejam comes from Funkadelic's 1979 album 'Uncle Jam Wants You'. George Clinton's wayward habit of creating his own funked-up universe appeals to this trio forging a fresh musical identity. Their debut single "Love Ya" was played on BBC Radio by Trevor Nelson and Annie Mac and was also performed live on Popworld on Channel 4. The single was B-listed at BBC Radio 1 and charted at number fifty four in the UK Singles Chart. It was also included in the soundtrack for the game NBA Live 2008. The video for the song was directed by Paul Gore.[1] Despite the disappointing single position for "Love Ya", the group released their second single "What Am I Fighting For?" following a stint supporting Nelly Furtado on her UK tour, and Justin Timberlake on the UK leg of his FutureSex/LoveSounds tour. The single was a much bigger success, peaking in the UK Singles Chart top twenty and peaking at number eleven on the UK iTunes Store. The group's debut self-titled album was initially due for release on 11 June 2007, one week after the release of the group's second single "What Am I Fighting For?". However, the release date for the album was pushed back to 10 September 2007, with a third single planned to precede the album release. Their third single "Stereo" (released 22 October) peaked at number 101 in the UK Singles Chart. Read more on Last.fm.
