Laufeyiar Sonr is a project that has several cd-r releases out already, as well as contributions to various compilations such as Tuchtunie, Neoform or Dutchgothic. Earlier it already was noticeable that ice cold industrial compositions and warm neoclassical melodies are processed ingeniously. Label: Neuropa Records Genre: dark ambient, electronica (idm / electronica / technoid / breakbeat ) Website: http://tuchtunie.nl/laufeyiar-sonr On their sound, and on the debut: On Vorst many of these tracks return, together with new tracks and it all falls into it’s right place with this strong debut release on the Belgian Neuropa Records. The most striking of the music of Laufeyiar Sonr is that the minimal forceful electronic sounds and rhythms combine well with the melodic side of their music in which neoclassical and medieval atmospheres are never far away. This all gives the music a ritual touch, which works very effectively. ‘Through The Burren’ is a stalemate of this, but this also goes for tracks such as the conjuring ‘Grimhild’ in which you can hear a choir, and for the technoid ‘The Trickster Strikes’ and in lesser degree for ‘White Girl’. ‘Red Bar’ sounds somewhat naive, as if all the various colours of sounds had to be tried out to see what best fits Laufeyiar Sonr. ‘Three-Coloured Fields’ combines dark ambient with percussion and vocal samples and this again results in an hypnotising effect. The powernoise track ‘Second Fire’ doesn’t really appeal to me personally. I have more connection with the ritual approach in which the industrial as well as the classical spheres have a part. The medieval part is most dominantly present next to the industrial cold technoid sounds in both of the ‘Si An Bhru’ compositions. There are 22 copies of Vorst and the splendid artwork on the 7 inch gatefold cover is by the hand of Nik Saveliev of the Russian martial industrial outfit Levoi Pravoi. A great release, especially if you consider this is a debut. 2013: After the release of Vorst, now years ago, Laufeyiar Sonr will return with a track on the compilation series "Against Nature" (Wooden Lung).
