Nagham Masry نَغَم مصري is an Egyptian group that stitches together disparate musical elements of Egyptian and Western popular music with traditional Oriental melodies. The Nagham Masry project was formed by vocalist Sherbini شربيني and guitarist Ousso in 2000. Their first gig was in "Beit El Harrawy" (بيت الهراوي) and was a collaboration of Sherbini's melodies and singing , Ousso's music, and the lyrics of Salah Jahin (صلاح جاهين), Ahmed Fou'aad Negm (أحمد فؤاد نجم), Amal Donkol, as well as of many other famous poets and writers. Building on the success, Nagham Masry was formed with the objective of being a different band. This was a band in which each member makes a difference; each member contributes to his part the way he feels it. Nagham Masry is very much a comprehensive team; comprising sound engineers, stage & light designers and highly qualified management. The band chose the name of Nagham Masry because the melodies ( nagham ) & lyrics are Egyptian. However, the music itself is international; sometimes Egyptian, sometimes Indian, rock, fusion, jazz etc... Sherbini : Vocals Ousso: Guitar Amr Khairy : Drums Bico: Bass Guitar Budds: Keyboards Hany Bedair : Oriental Percussions Shady Sharaf : Oud Sherif Kamel: Anoon Nagham Masry has carefully chosen its lyrics with specific Egyptian & Arabic issues in mind to touch upon issues of interest. That is why it might be the only Egyptian music band that has fans representing almost all the age groups and social backgrounds. Nagham Masry has performed at the following locations; Saladin festival, Cairo Opera House, Beit El Harrawi, the AUC, the British Council, the CFCC, Alexandria Library, the Goethe Institute, and Al-Sawi Culture Wheel ساقية الصاوي http://www.culturewheel.com/.
