If you want to give a name to the genre, within which The Moonband moves musically, then you'd probably call it "Contemporary" or "Alternative Folk". But how many attributes you would ever want to add to "Folk" – in the end it remains Folk: the fusion of telling stories and making music. It's as simple as that. The joy of music making is the driving power behind what they do. It comes as no surprise, that the band was able to develop a distinctive musical language for their debut album. A wide assortment of instrumentation can be heard, from a contrabass to a glockenspiel, while still maintaining the rustic tonal acoustic feel throughout. The presence of overlapping vocals wraps the lyrics of both songwriters Houston and Mondbasis in faint warm light. The Moonband, whose members met 2007 and started out playing around the kitchen table, still see themselves predominately as a live experience, but not just in the sense of a concert setting. If on a summer night one finds themselves taking a stroll and listens, quite possibly a simple evening walk could be transformed into a spontaneous Moonband concert beneath the stars. This is the purest way one can experience the intricate sounds of The Moonband. Music, the entire night. A mixture of their own compositions, covers and traditional songs plus every now and then a guest musician. It's guaranteed to be sheer joy when one, if only for a few hours, allows themselves to release from the pull of gravitation. Eugen Mondbasis — vocals, guitar, banjo, bouzouki, harp Chris Houston — vocals, guitar, slide, percussion Katrin Bobek — vocals, mandolin, ukulele, banjo, glockenspiel Andy Henningsen — upright bass Elena Tschaffon — percussion Read more on Last.fm.
